Tirana to Prizren Bus 2026: Times, Stops and the Border

Updated · October 26, 2026 10 min read

Tirana to Prizren by bus: 21 a day at €20 one way or €25 return, about 3 hours, which Prizren stop to pick and the Morinë border. Checked 24 Oct 2026.

Take a direct bus from Tirana’s East Terminal and plan on three hours. GjirafaTravel, the Kosovo ticket platform that sells seats for the carriers on this line, listed 21 departures a day on 24 October 2026, from 01:00 to 22:30, over 184 km at an average of 3 hours 5 minutes. The average fare was €20 (about US$22), which happens to be what the Tirana to Pristina bus costs, even though Prizren is the nearer stop.

Two details change how you book. The Prizren stop printed on your ticket puts you 1.7 km or 5.8 km from the old town, and one morning coach boards at an office in Lapraka, not at the East Terminal. Times and fares below are from the ticket seller’s boards as read on 24 October 2026, and the board for your own date is the one to trust.

Three hours, not two: the board row by row

These are nine of the 21 direct departures on the platform’s board for Monday 26 October, read in full on 24 October and picked to show the stops and the oddities. Every row is a direct bus, priced at €20 one way and €25 return, and the platform adds a €2 service fee per order at checkout.

After 11:00 the board lists 11 more departures, at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 14:30, 15:30, 16:00, 17:00, 19:00, 19:30, 20:00 and 22:30, so a coach leaves roughly every hour or two until 20:00, then one last at 22:30.

Read the two-hour rows with suspicion: Kei-Reisen’s 11:00 and 12:00 are both listed at 2 h, which is almost certainly a listing error. By road, Skanderbeg Square to the old town is 178 km and 2 hours 32 minutes in a routing engine’s car model, with no stop at the border (terminal to bus station is 185 km, close to the listing’s 184). A coach that loads, queues at a frontier and unloads can’t beat that. The listing’s own average is 3 hours 5 minutes, and that’s the figure to plan around. The same platform’s Prizren to Tirana page carries a 1 h 45 min row, which tells you how far to trust the smallest numbers.

The rows before 05:00 are night runs. The 01:00 Amalfi departure lands at 04:15 at Vrrini Center, in the dark and well away from the old town, so book those only if you’ve arranged a bed or a ride. At the other end of the day, Vellezrit Thaqi’s 22:30 is listed at four hours and ends at Vrrini Center around 02:30, so the same rule applies. Buses leave from the East Terminal beside the TEG mall, which the Pristina bus guide explains how to reach. The Tirana Metropol row boards at an office in Lapraka instead, so check which of the two your ticket names. Arbeni Tours also sells seats on its own site, arbenitours.com.

Prizren Station or Vrrini Center: read the stop on your ticket

Prizren Station, the main bus station, is 1.7 km from Shadërvan, the old town’s central square: about 23 minutes on foot in a pedestrian routing model. Vrrini Center is the stop near Vrrini Market on the western side of town, 5.8 km from Shadërvan: about 9 minutes by car, or an hour and 20 minutes on foot. Of the 21 direct departures on the board, 16 end at Prizren Station and five at Vrrini: Amalfi’s two early runs, Tirana Metropol’s 06:00 and both Vellezrit Thaqi coaches.

So the ticket’s last line matters more than the logo on the coach. If you do end up at Vrrini, you’ll want a taxi, so agree the fare before you get in. From Prizren Station it’s a walk into the old town, bag in hand, and the guesthouses around Shadërvan are the ones the Albania and Kosovo road trip points to for a night in town.

Crossing at Morinë

The bus follows the A1 to Kukës and crosses at Morinë on the Albanian side and Vërmicë on the Kosovo side. Kosovo’s customs service says its Vërmicë post works round the clock and handles a very high flow of traffic. The Albania border crossings guide has the Albanian hours and says where to check live queue times, which Kosovo’s border-management centre posts for Vërmicë.

Entry rules depend on your passport, and they aren’t identical for everyone. Kosovo’s foreign ministry lists the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the EU states among the countries whose citizens need no visa. The UK government says British travellers can stay up to 90 days, may be asked to show a reason for the trip or enough money, and get a 90-day entry stamp. The same page asks for a passport that’s undamaged and valid for the whole of your stay. Canada’s advice says 90 days in any 180-day period, and adds that a hotel or guesthouse usually files your registration, while a private host means you register with the police yourself. If Serbia comes after Kosovo, read the UK advice first: it says you can’t travel from Kosovo into Serbia without a Serbian entry stamp from another crossing or a Serbian airport, so plan that leg through a third country. Read your own government’s advice in the week you travel.

Carry euros. The Central Bank of Kosovo says the euro is the currency used there, and you shouldn’t count on Albanian lek being accepted on the other side.

A day trip from Tirana, or a night in Prizren

On the board for Monday 26 October, Arbeni Tours’ 05:45 departure is listed to arrive at 08:30, and the Prizren to Tirana board has 24 direct departures through the day. If you do it in a day, aim for the evening coaches: Kabashi Tours at 19:30 and Kei-Reisen at 20:00 are both listed at 2 h 30 into the East Terminal, which gives you about 11 hours in town for just over five hours in a seat. The last departure is 22:30, but its row lists 1 h 30 for 181 km, which looks like another listing error; at the return board’s average of 2 h 35 min you’d reach Tirana around 01:00. Buy the return: the board prices it at €25 against €40 for two singles. It’s an open return: you pick the date and time of the trip back later under My Bookings, within 30 days, and pay the difference if that coach costs more, so check there that your evening coach is offered.

A night in the old town spares you that 01:00 arrival. The road trip guide above covers Prizren’s old stone bridge and the fortress on the hill. If Pristina is your next stop, the local Prizren to Prishtina buses averaged €4.90 on the platform’s board, 36 a day from 05:45 to 19:45. That’s not a shortcut, though: a Tirana to Prizren ticket plus that leg comes to about €25, against the €20 Pristina fare from Tirana. Prizren is a stop you choose. For Skopje, our sister guide to Skopje to Tirana by bus compares the roads between the two capitals, and one of them runs through Kosovo.

A private transfer, priced per car

Kiwitaxi’s Tirana to Prizren page shows 185 km and about three hours, with prices from $168 per vehicle on 24 October 2026. That’s a comfort sedan for four passengers and three bags; a minivan for four with four bags is $225. These are prices per car, not per seat, so the maths depends on your group. Four bus tickets at the board’s €20 come to €80 (about US$90), which puts the transfer at roughly twice the bus for four. Two travellers pay €40 (about US$45) by bus against $168 for the car.

What you buy for the difference is a pickup at your Tirana address, a drop at your Prizren door and no question about which stop to choose. Kiwitaxi asks for standard cars to be booked at least 16 hours ahead; inside that window it only takes an urgent request and then tells you whether it can do the trip, so don’t count on it after you’ve missed the 09:00 coach.

Driving it yourself

Hire a car in Tirana and the road is the same 178 km, which the routing engine gives as 2 hours 32 minutes with no wait at the border. An Albanian-plated rental needs the company’s written permission to enter Kosovo but no Green Card, since Kosovo accepts Albanian compulsory cover. Cars on UK or EU plates are a different case, covered in the border crossings guide. Get Kosovo written into the rental agreement, and read how to rent a car in Albania for the pickup and deposit side.

Which one to book

  • Travelling light, arriving in daylight: a morning coach from the East Terminal that ends at Prizren Station, such as Arbeni Tours at 05:45 or Kabashi Tours at 09:00, then the 23-minute walk to Shadërvan.
  • There and back in a day: the 05:45 out with the €25 open return, and the coach back picked under My Bookings: the 19:30 Kabashi Tours and the 20:00 Kei-Reisen are listed at 2 h 30 into the East Terminal, which leaves about 11 hours in town.
  • Three or four of you, or heavy bags: Kiwitaxi’s car from $168 for the whole vehicle, booked at least 16 hours ahead.
  • Prizren on the way to Pristina: the local leg averages €4.90, but if the old town isn’t the point, the direct Pristina coach from Tirana is cheaper.
  • Your own wheels: an Albanian-plated Tirana rental with Kosovo written into the contract, and no border insurance to buy.
