Llogara Tunnel Now Charges a Toll
The Llogara Tunnel to the Albanian Riviera now charges a toll - 250 lek each way for cars from April 2026. Rates, where the booth is, and how to pay.
Driving down to the southern beaches this summer? Budget a few coins for the tunnel. The 6 km Llogara Tunnel, the road that cuts under the Llogara Pass between Vlora and the Riviera, now charges a toll after two seasons of free passage. It is a small sum, but it is cash you need in hand.
What you will pay
According to Albanian Daily News, tolling went live in April 2026 after a final round of tests on the electronic system. A car pays 250 lek one way, or 500 lek for a round trip. Motorcycles pay 100 lek, cargo vehicles 500 lek, vans and buses about 1,000 lek, and heavy trucks up to 5,000 lek. For a typical car that is roughly the price of a coffee for a crossing that used to take a white-knuckle 30 to 40 minutes over the pass and now takes about seven.
The booth sits at the northern, Dukat end of the tunnel on the Vlora side, so you pay heading south into the Riviera and again on the way back north. Cash in lek is the safe bet; card acceptance had not been confirmed in published reporting when we checked, so do not count on plastic here.
The tunnel, and the old road
The Llogara Tunnel opened to traffic in July 2024 and is the longest in Albania. It shortened the Dukat to Palase stretch dramatically and made the run to the coast far easier in bad weather or after dark. Here is the thing worth knowing: the old Llogara Pass road over the top is still there, and on a clear day the hairpins and the viewing platform give you one of the finest panoramas in the country. Many drivers now take the tunnel one way and the pass the other. It is one of the set-piece drives on any run down the Albanian Riviera.
What it means for your trip
For most visitors the toll changes nothing except a reminder to carry small notes. If you are renting, our guide to renting a car in Albania covers the paperwork, and how to get around Albania explains buses and furgons if you would rather not drive the coast yourself. Heading for the beaches around here, see the Vlora city guide and our note on where to stay on the Albanian Riviera.
